Jessica Killin, Fourth-Generation Coloradan and U.S. Army Veteran, Launches Campaign for Congress
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Today, Jessica Killin—a proud fourth-generation Coloradan, U.S. Army veteran, dedicated public servant, business leader, and mom—announced her candidacy for the United States Congress in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District. With deep roots in the Pikes Peak region and a career defined by public service, Democrat Jessica Killin is running to bring competence, courage, and character back to Washington and to be a fierce advocate for Colorado families.
"I'm running for Congress because Washington needs leaders who are focused on actually getting things done— not partisan name-calling and bitter culture wars. The Pikes Peak Region deserves results-oriented, competent leadership. Instead, Jeff Crank has let his constituents down, voting to kick thousands off healthcare while raising the national debt by trillions,” said Jessica Killin.
Raised in Colorado Springs by two public school educators, Jessica developed a profound belief in the power of education and the importance of public service at a young age. Her parents provided a solid, middle-class life on teachers’ salaries, which is why she is committed to rebuilding a robust middle class today.
Growing up among military families and veterans in El Paso County, Jessica learned at an early age what it meant to be a patriot and the importance of duty, honor, and country.
After graduating from Falcon High School, this commitment led her to earn an ROTC scholarship and serve with distinction as a Captain and paratrooper in the U.S. Army, where she was stationed overseas and led soldiers as a Military Police Officer. Jessica was active in peacekeeping missions in the Balkans and NATO expansion throughout Europe.
Following her military service, Jessica earned her law degree at Georgetown and dedicated the next chapter of her career to improving the livelihoods of everyday Americans, military families, and veterans.
For over a decade, Jessica worked at USAA promoting policies to protect military families and veterans from the fallout of the 2008 financial crisis – streamlining VA home loans and working to stop payday lenders from preying on our soldiers. During that time, Jessica balanced full-time work as an executive while raising her daughter, Cora.
Drawing on her military and private sector experience, and fueled by her patriotism, Jessica then returned to public service in leadership roles on Capitol Hill and at the White House, where she worked to ensure safety, security, and opportunity for all Americans.
In Washington, Jessica saw firsthand the urgent need for change in both parties. Now, she’s ready to bring her patriotism, proven tenacity, and independent voice to deliver solutions that improve the lives of Coloradans.
"My experiences growing up in Colorado Springs and serving our great country have taught me the importance of principled leadership and hard work," Killin stated. "As a veteran, public servant, and mom, I understand the challenges Colorado families face every day, as well as the opportunities they rightly want a chance to pursue."
Jessica’s service in uniform, work in the private sector on behalf of our veterans, and leadership in public policy make her uniquely prepared to drive necessary change in Washington and bring real results back to our community. Jessica knows what’s at stake, and she is ready to get to work for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District.
