Killin’s strong campaign and Crank’s weakness put Colorado's 5th District firmly in play
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Cook Political Report just released its latest update on the House races that will decide control of Congress this November, and they have upgraded CO-05 toward Democrats.
In their write-up, Cook noted that the district is one of the few districts that has consistently moved towards Democrats over the past 3 presidential election cycles, and that Killin is in a strong financial position.
In fact, Colorado’s 5th Congressional District is the fastest Democratic-trending district in the county, according to Cook’s analysis. Killin has put this district into play, running a formidable campaign with record fundraising, more than $1.1 million cash on hand, endorsements from the entire Colorado Democratic congressional delegation, and deep ties to the district as an Army veteran and native Southern Coloradan.
A November poll found that the race between Jessica Killin and Jeff Crank is a toss-up, within the margin of error. This update in the race rating emphasizes that the path to flipping the House of Representatives in 2026 runs through Colorado’s 5th Congressional District.
Fourth-generation Coloradan and Army veteran Jessica Killin said, “Jeff Crank has made life more expensive for El Paso County residents, added $4 trillion to the national debt, and failed to show up and listen to the concerns of his constituents. Southern Colorado is ready for new leadership, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves to flip this district for the first time in history, and to represent El Paso County constituents in the way they deserve.”
