Cook Political Report Moves Colorado’s 5th Congressional District In Democrats' Favor

Army Veteran Jessica Killin’s strong campaign and Crank’s weakness have made Colorado's 5th District one of the Most Competitive in the Nation

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Today, Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election analysis, moved Colorado’s 5th Congressional District from Likely Republican to Lean Republican. 

Erin Covey wrote for the Cook Political Report, “Population growth in Colorado Springs has turned the once reliably Republican 5th District into fertile ground for Democrats. One of the few districts that shifted left between 2020 and 2024 —Trump won it by 10 and nine points, respectively — the 5th District has been seen as a reach for Democrats for most of the cycle. But Democratic nominee Jessica Killin’s heavy fundraising has put this seat in play, forcing freshman GOP Rep. Jeff Crank on defense.”

No Going Back PAC, funded by Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC, has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District to support Jeff Crank, who has voted with Trump 100% of the time. The unprecedented influx of national Republican money into this historically safe Republican district underscores just how competitive this race has become.
